Study Task 8 - Squash and Stretch

The principle of squash and stretch is used to enhance an object or character's movements by changing shape (without changing its volume) and this task required us to demonstrate this through the animation of a bouncing ball, both up and down and with lateral movement.

Animation 1: ball dropping straight down

Animation 2: ball dropping with lateral motion

What worked well:

  • The ball exhibiting less squash and stretch as it loses energy over time in the first animation
  • The use of sound in both animations.

What could be improved:
  • The speed/timing of the ball bouncing in the second animation was a bit off in some places and for the most part required correcting by adding and removing frames in certain places
  • One bounce in the second animation needed a sound effect to make the movement more logical.
